The City’s plan for water mains and sewers

The Ville de Montréal inspects its water mains, sewers and streets and publishes a plan d’intervention (the current one covers 2023-2027). For each street segment it rates the water main, the sewer and the storm sewer: A (no work needed), B (studies or monitoring), C (work desirable), D (immediate attention), and 0 when the pipe has not been inspected.

Class C or D on your block means the City is likely to open the street in the next years to repair or replace the pipes: noise, detours, parking limits and planned water cuts for weeks or months. Until then, old pipes are more likely to break or to back up.

The plan does not give dates: each borough schedules its own work. Ask the borough when work is planned on the street. The service pipe from the property line to the house belongs to the owner; lead service lines are a separate check.

Our pages match the plan’s street segments to the address by street name and distance, and show only class C or D.
