Contaminated sites

Quebec’s environment ministry (MELCCFP) keeps the register of contaminated sites (répertoire des terrains contaminés): lots where soil or groundwater contamination was reported, with the contaminants and the state of rehabilitation. The register includes lots that have already been rehabilitated.

A contaminated lot can be costly to clean up and can limit the uses allowed. A notice of contamination may also be registered in the land register. Former gas stations, industry or a buried heating-oil tank are common causes.

On our pages, a site listed on the lot (or right next to the address point) is a Check; a site within 100 m is a Note. For a purchase, ask the seller for environmental studies and consider a phase I environmental site assessment.
