Quebec Dossier (“we”) handles personal information under Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and, where it applies, Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Person in charge of the protection of personal information

Privacy officer, Quebec Dossier, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, bonjour@quebecdossier.com.

Information about properties

Our pages are about properties, built from public records. We do not publish owners’ names. Permit descriptions are cleaned to remove names, phone numbers and email addresses of people who appear in them. Notices of deterioration are published by the City with the owner’s name; we do not reproduce names. Police data is published by the City with locations moved to the nearest intersection, and we show it only as counts for an area, never for a home. If you believe a page shows personal information about you, contact us and we will review it.

What we collect from you

Site statistics: we count page views and actions (such as searches and purchases) with our own analytics, without cookies. Instead of storing your IP address we keep a code made from it that changes every day, so we cannot follow a visitor from one day to the next, and we do not use it to identify, locate or profile you. We use these numbers only to understand how the site is used.

Google (with your consent): if you accept in the cookie notice, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads receive page views, technical data about your device and cookie identifiers, to measure visits and how well our ads work. Google LLC may process this data outside Quebec. You can withdraw consent with “Cookie settings”.

We do not use advertising trackers and do not sell or rent personal information.

Why we use it

To provide the site and your reports, process payments, keep accounts secure, prevent abuse such as bulk copying, answer questions, meet legal and tax obligations, and improve the service. We send service emails about your account and purchases. We will send marketing emails only if you opt in, as required by Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL), and every such email lets you unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

Only service providers who help us run the site, under contracts that require them to protect it: Stripe (payments), our hosting provider, and our email delivery provider. If you open Street View on a page, Google receives your IP address and browser information under Google’s privacy policy. Some providers store data outside Quebec, including in the United States. Before sending personal information outside Quebec we assess whether it will receive adequate protection, as Law 25 requires, and our contracts require the providers to protect it. Information stored abroad may be accessible to authorities under local law. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Account and purchase records are kept while your account is open and for as long as tax and accounting rules require (generally seven years for financial records). Server logs are kept for up to 90 days. Contact messages are kept for up to two years.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), limited access, and payment processing that keeps card data off our servers. No method is perfectly secure; we keep a register of confidentiality incidents, and if an incident creates a risk of serious injury we will notify you and the Commission d’accès à l’information as the law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, receive it in a structured, commonly used technological format, withdraw consent to optional uses, or ask us to delete your account (we keep what the law requires). Write to the person in charge above. We answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

Cookies

See our cookie policy.

Children

The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 14; buying a report requires being of the age of majority.

Changes and contact

We will post changes here with a new effective date. Our privacy contact: Quebec Dossier, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, bonjour@quebecdossier.com.
